At Finger Lakes Dexter Creamery we handcraft a very special artisanal, farmstead, raw milk Kefir cheese made with the fresh creamy milk from our own Irish Dexter cows. Our cheese is cultured with living kefir grains that are packed full of friendly probiotic organisms. Peoples known for their longevity and good health have cultured milk with kefir grains for centuries.
We are the first and only registered Dexter dairy in North America, making the first and only authentic Kefir cheese! Our Dexters are grass fed and pastured.
We raise and sell Dexter cattle with an emphasis on the milking Dexter. When you buy a Dexter from us, you will be getting a well rounded animal that has been loved and handled every day of his/her first six months of life. We dehorn our calves at 3-5 days old in the most humane way. All our cattle are either chondro-free by parentage, or DNA tested for chondrodysplasia.
Animals for sale:
We typically have six to eight calves born each year. Our calves are handled from day one. They share the milk parlor with their mothers twice a day, where they learn naturally to be docile, friendly and well mannered. Our heifers will be ready for milk cows when they mature. Our bulls will be people friendly, and steers will be great fun for 4-H projects. We usually have a waiting list, so please let us know if you are interested.

Our Kefir cheese is for sale through our website, through Local Harvest (an online market place), and at many fine shops listed on our website.
